Welcome to Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve!
The trip from Quito to Cuyabeno takes around 9-10 hours by tourist bus, passing through the beautiful landscapes of rainforest, rivers, and small towns in the Sucumbíos province. After arriving at "El Puente del Cuyabeno," guests enjoy a box lunch before boarding a motorized canoe. The 2-3 hour ride down the Cuyabeno River offers a chance to admire the region's rich flora and fauna. Upon reaching Tapir Lodge, guests settle into their rooms and enjoy dinner. In the evening, the guide provides an introduction to the lodge and upcoming activities in the Cuyabeno Reserve.

Exploring the Rainforest at Cuyabeno Reserve
The day starts with a healthy breakfast, followed by the distribution of rubber boots for the excursion. Guests then embark on a motorized canoe ride to "Laguna Grande" (Big Lake), where they can enjoy paddle boating and observe the unique flora and fauna, including flooded forests and ancient trees. Afterward, guests trek along the "Palma Roja" path, spotting birds and monkeys. After lunch, there's a break before heading out for an afternoon canoe trip around the lake to continue wildlife watching. If the weather permits, a relaxing swim and a beautiful sunset are possible. The day ends with drinks at the bar or a quick night trek to spot frogs and other nocturnal creatures.

Bird Watching and Culture at Cuyabeno
The day starts early with bird watching along the river. After breakfast, guests go on a 2-hour paddle boat ride to look for animals like blue butterflies and monkeys. The tour includes a visit to the Siona village and meeting, a local Shaman, to learn about plants used for medicine. Guests can also join a healing ceremony. Later, they will see how cassava bread is made. The afternoon has a sunset boat ride, followed by dinner and a farewell drink. The day ends with a short night walk to spot animals.

Farewell Amazon: Return to Civilization!
After breakfast, the staff will help coordinate your departure from Tapir. The usual departure time is at 9:30 AM, depending on the weather and river conditions. The staff will load your luggage onto the canoe, and you will travel back to the bridge where transportation will be waiting to take you back to Lago Agrio, Coca, and Quito. You will arrive in Quito at around 7:00 PM.
